techno thoughts

music production & art direction

fully made during august 2021.

this project was born out of a need to find new ways to express my personal design aesthetic through mediums other than visual resources. i wanted to project my brain and thoughts (thats why i called it techno thoughts) into an experimental album using audio clips that have inspired me in certain moments in time and also discoveing many new ones along the way. feel free to listen along as you read about each track because i think i have some explaining to do!

each track is a piece of what goes through my head on a daily basis. every song has a story behind it... so here we go!

1 - toika
the title "toika" is really an anagram for "taiko". taiko drums are (according to wikipedia) "a broad range of japanese percussion drums." this was the first song i made for this record (actually, i made them in the order they will appear on the actual album!), the inspiration came to me right after finishing japanese conversation class and so this track was born!

2 - lavender town
clearly, i love pokémon! ever since i can remember i have played, watched, collected and even dreamed about those strange little pocket monsters, and hey why not pay them homage by making a pkmn inspired song? squirtle this one's for u <3

3 - ms cat
okay so here's the thing. i am obsessssssssed with doja cat, not only her music but just like her as a human (or what she decides to show publicly at least). this song is just an audio representation of how i feel every time i click on a doja instagram live video. one day she might be sharing a love story and the next she might be screaming at us telling us we're just too damn horny. (doja if u ever see this ily lol)

4 - otf? (oh the fr*cking?)
what can i say about this one... if you know you know!! ms. peppermint, ms. the drag queen you're both iconic pls never stop. (this song also features ms rup*ul and the lovely yuhua hamasaki right at the end of it)

5 - you're not really fine
"they ask you how you are, and you just have to say you’re fine when you’re not really fine, but you just can’t get into it, because they would never understand. " - katy perry. direct reference here

6 - what do you wanna do?
this one was born from the ashes of ye olde youtube days back in 2007 where queen kelly (aka liam kyle sullivan) ruled over everyone. simpler times really. also, what do you wanna do? this song is lowkey (highkey) creepy but also kiiiinda inspirational like... betch you do you!!

7 - purification (cleansing interlude)
since chromatica had instrumentals i also wanted to include an instrumental! nah, in all seriousness i was getting a bit of a headache from making all these (intense) songs and found myself playing the piano between songs so... why not compose an orchestral track for this album?

8 - crystal
mandatory vaporwave ode to crystal pe*si but more directly shitting on capitalism yes mawmah smash the patriarchy! just a light-hearted song using bits of a crystal pe*si employee video guide (so retro!). it all depends on who you ask i guess but for me this song means exactly the opposite from what the "lyrics" actually say, does that make sense?

9 - virus
okay you know we're in the middle of a worldwide panini right now... riiight? well, there's that. also, i have been sick for a week and made this drugged out on meds (all legal stuff!)

10 - a10
the title is read "adeu". farewell track inspired by an old catalan tv show called "vinagre". i just can't even explain it... youtube it! the lyrics say "attention everyone! it's closing time and closing time is sacred" and i couldn't agree more, don't do any free extra hours value yourself and your time <3

and that's on periodt.
